Klínovec and its surroundings

Jáchymov cableway – Klínovec Prima Express

Trailpark Klínovec runs from May to October, and you can experience the longest trails in Europe. The start is located at the top of Klínovec, the trails have 4 difficulty levels and end at the cableway that will take you back with your bike. Children under 5 years of age for free. The downhill track on the southern slope of Klínovec is also open. Market routes for mountain bikes, scooters and hikers. Follow the yellow route to the lower station of the cableway which will take you to the top of Klínovec. See more at trailpark.cz.

Lime works in Háje at Loučná pod Klínovcem

The lime works can be found in the forest landscape between Háje at Loučná pod Klínovcem and Kovářská, and it is the most significant preserved evidence of mining and processing limestone rocks to produce lime in the Ore Mountains. Two octagonal Rumford shaft furnaces and the remains of other buildings have remained well preserved from the original building from the 19th century. In 2019, the lime works underwent a complete reconstruction. There is a quarry with dolomitic limestone past the lime works. More at loucna.eu.

Snake Mountain

A yellow-marked hiking route leads to Snake mountain, which connects Boží Dar with Jáchymov. The grey stone sea was formed after the degradation of a vein by quartz-rich in granite porphyry, which is a vein igneous rock formed by the solidification of magma. The original durable rock was torn apart by the expansivity of ice. The altitude is 940 m, but the peak is hidden in the forest, out of sight.

Boží Dar and its surroundings

Baby Jesus’ journey

Suitable for walking and cycling. The small circuit has 6 km, the large circuit has 13 km, and there is a KRMELEC snack bar at the fourth shack. The journey is full of fun tasks, which the children write down in the Baby Jesus’ notebook zápisníčku, which can be bought at the Information centre for CZK 50, and after completing it, you get a small gift.

Johannes drift

The unique drift lies towards Golden Hill. It was mined here already in the 16th century. The largest mine in the Golden Hill – Kaff territory was the Johannes drift, which consists of a well-preserved complex of historic mine shafts, where miners excavated huge underground chambers. In 2 hours, you will go through 500 years of history in the historic mine. The drift was registered on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. Klínovec lookout tower

Klínovec is the highest mountain of the Ore Mountains. In 1884, the octagonal 17 m lookout tower of Emperor František Josef was built on the top. In 1893, a brick inn and a flat for a watchman were built additionally. The newly reconstructed Klínovec lookout tower offers a view of the Czech and German landscapes. Boží vyhlídka

Free access to Boží vyhlídka is available all year round. In winter, the operation may be limited due to bad weather. The wooden beam structure is sheathed with stainless steel templates, and there are 2 large viewing windows. It is located at the upper station of the ski tow behind the hotel Praha above the town of Boží Dar. The lookout tower was completed in 2020 according to the project of Ing. arch. Jan Mach.

Museum of National History in Boží Dar

An exposition on the history of Boží Dar, a peasant room, minerals from the Ore Mountains, Christmas nativity scenes, a bell from 1594, a model of the Klínovec and Fichtelberg lookout tower, tools for mining minerals and peat extraction, as well as on the memories of the stay of the Greek novelist Nikos Kazantzakis in Boží Dar. Peat Bog in Boží Dar

The educational trail is 3.2 km long, has 12 information boards, and leads through a part of the Boží Dar Peat Bog National Nature Reserve, which was declared an internationally important wetland according to the Ramsar Convention. It starts at the Krušnohorská magistrála, where the 1st information board is situated. It mainly leads along wooden pathways, which ensure the safety of tourists as well as rare animal and plant species. More at Božídarské rašeliniště.

Border stone

A three-sided border stone with colourful plastic signs lies 150 m from the former border crossing and bears the signs of 3 countries, i.e. the Czech Republic, Saxony and the territory of the Schwarzenberg house. The stone was built during the reign of Maria Theresa. You can find it right on the state border near the highest wind power plant above Boží Dar. You will head from Boží Dar towards Klínovec, at the turn-off to the parking lot of the ski resort, and you will see a wooden substation and wind power plants opposite on the left side of the road. From there, you will go along the panel path diagonally to the forest and across the meadow directly to the border stone.

 Multi-purpose sports field

The area is open daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, and on weekends until 10 PM, depending on the weather. It is possible to make a reservation in advance with the manager Mr. Dušek, phone number 774 701 505. There is a tennis court, and a playing field for handball, small football, volleyball, basketball and other ball games. The surface is made of artificial grass.

Kids’ world NOVAKO

Riding the mountain scooters and carts, attractions for children and refreshments. Children will appreciate the trampolines, bouncy castle, climbing frames, slides, rope centre, children’s playground and ball games. Červený Vlk Boží Dar brewery

A family microbrewery with a restaurant that offers cold and hot meals and seating on the exterior terrace. It is located under the OMV gas station. Červený Vlk brewery was founded in the heart of the Ore Mountains in Boží Dar. The building fits into the local architecture, and it is at a high technological level at the same time. Living Mountains

The Living Mountains project presents the Czech and Saxon parts of the Ore Mountains and significant historical events through technology. Individual visualizations can be played directly in the terrain using a tablet or mobile phone app. There is a total of 39 visualizations on the route. More at zivehory.cz.

Ryžovna and its surroundings

Mílov chapel

The reconstructed chapel, opened in 2013 in the place of the original chapel and the former settlement of Mílov, is located in the direction of Potůčky, 12 km from Boží Dar. From Boží Dar, set out the large circle of the Baby Jesus’ journey to the Myslivna water reservoir, turn right to Golden Hill, and after 500 m you set off on foot or by bike by taking the first left turn along the Mílová route to the chapel. You can drive 4 km from Boží Dar to Myslivna and the park. More at Kaplička Mílov.

Ryžovna village with a church

The memory of the church lies 7 km west of Boží Dar. You can see a cross of commemoration, a church miniature and a barrow with a memorial plaque. The village was founded in the 16th century. The name RyžovnaSeifen in German – was obtained from panning tin ore grits from gravel alluvium. Silver, cobalt and uranium were also mined in local mines. Find more at Ryžovna.

Ryžovna brewery

You can find the Rýžovna family brewery 7 km west of Boží Dar. It was born out of love for beer as a traditional Czech drink and for the Ore Mountains, in the heart of which the almost extinct settlement of Rýžovna is situated. More at ryzovna.cz.

Abertamy and its surroundings

Exposition of the Abertamy glove industry

Tours only by previous reservation, part of the tour include a movie projection about the production of gloves. Abertamy is a town with a glove-making tradition. As part of the Abertamy glove-making exhibition at Albertamy Town Hall, you can discover the secrets of traditional glove-making. Phone number 774 485 111.

Kryštof – Hřebečná drift

It is located 10 km from Boží Dar, the oldest mine drift is called Mauritius. The defunct tin mine at Hřebečná near Abertamy in the Karlovy Vary district was in operation since the 16th century. It has been a cultural monument since 1964, and in 2014, it was registered on the list of national cultural monuments and made available to the public. In 2008, the uncovering of the Kryštof drift mouth began. Červená jáma is a part of the heritage-protected area of the mine. More at dulmauritius.cz.

Abertamy cheese factory and Abertamy & Jindřichovice bistro

The Abertamy cheese factory offers natural farm cheeses made from cow’s, sheep’s and goat’s milk. Abertamy & Jindřichovice bistro cooks meat of regional origin, from its own breeding of animals. You can also eat in the second bistro in Jindřichovice. Apart from soup and ready meals, homemade sausages or meatloaf are available. More at farmazvirat.cz.

Plešivec site

You can see the Plešivec lookout tower, unique attractions and an extensive rope centre for adults and children, a giant swing and moreover, you can experience a free fall from a height of 13 m. There is also a great playground for children and awesome refreshments. More at plesivec.eu.

Horní Blatná and its surroundings

Vlčí jámy

The natural monument Vlčí jámy reached a depth of up to 85 m at its deepest point. It also includes a 15 m deep Ledová jáma, which keeps snow all year round. The educational trail Horní Blatná – Vlčí jámy is a circuit starting and ending in Horní Blatná. It has a little less than 5 km and has 7 information boards with Czech and German texts. Blatenský vrch lookout tower

The stone lookout tower lies 2 km from Horní Blatná, it is 21 m high, has 85 steps and provides a great view of the Ore Mountains. The lookout tower is located on the route of two popular educational trails Vlčí jámy and Blatenský příkop. We recommend a stop and hike to the lookout tower. More at Rozhledna Blatenský vrch.

Horní Blatná Museum

The exhibition will take you through the history of tin ore mining and processing in Horní Blatná and Boží Dar, as well as examples of tin dishes and local minerals. More at horni-blatna.cz.

Jáchymov and its surroundings

Jáchymov Museum

It is located above the town hall building in a former mint from the 16th century; it offers an example of mineral wealth, silver mining with a moving model, information about radon baths and history books. The Jáchymov Museum is in the renaissance house since 1964. The core, a few windows and portals, a unique chimney, an extensive cellar and an oriel with the carved date 1536, when the building was built, have been preserved from the original building. Drift no. 1 in Jáchymov

Tunnelling of most likely the exploratory shaft no. 1 in Jáchymov, in the Svornost mining field, was started in 1952. The shaft is 260 m long. One of the side tunnels crosses the mined silver-bearing Evangelist vein. More at omks.cz.

Špitální church in Jáchymov

In the centre of Jáchymov, you can find the Špitální church. It probably belongs to the oldest half-timbered sacral buildings in the western Ore Mountains. It was founded in 1516 and apparently also served as the parish church of the old village of Konradsgrün. It is the oldest building monument in Jáchymov. Phone number 353 811 379.

Educational trail Jáchymov Hell

The educational trail is 8.5 km long and has 12 information boards. The trail starts in Jáchymov, at St. Jáchym’s church. It is a reminder of the labour camps for political prisoners for the purpose of uranium mining in uranium mines and contains information about the city’s history, surrounding nature and ecology.

Educational trail About radon in Jáchymov

The educational trail is 3.6 km long and has 9 information boards. The trail starts in Na Svornosti street above St. Jáchym’s church, leads past the Svornost mine, where radon water is still being extracted, then around the Josef pit along the Špitální church, through the chestnut alley to the Radium palace sanatorium and provides detailed information about the radioactive radon gas.

Aquacentrum Agricola Jáchymov

Aquacentrum Agricola from 2009 with new equipment includes pools, saunas, whirlpool, Kneipp paths, steam box and more. It was the first state spa building from 1906 to 1911 and was called the Spa Building for the entire 100 years. Then it was reconstructed and extended to include the only year-round water park in the Ore Mountains. More info at laznejachymov.cz.

Kovářská and its surroundings

Museum of the air battle over the Ore Mountains

The village of Kovářská is located about 14 km from Boží Dar, and the museum offers aeronautical exhibits from World War II. It is dedicated to the memory of pilots of all nationalities who died over the Czech Republic and Germany in one of the most severe air battles over continental Europe. See more at museum119.cz.

Marie Pomocná drift and Koňská Jáma

Marie Pomocná drift and Koňská Jáma are full of mining history in Měděnec. The drifts are registered on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The drifts were first made available in Austria-Hungary in 1910. More info at stola.cz.

Ostrov and its surroundings

Red Tower of Death

The Red Tower of Death is a Czech national cultural monument commemorating the period of intensive uranium ore mining in the Jáchymov region after World War II. The area is dominated by a seven-storey red brick tower. Phone number 224 230 608 and mobile number 774 846 580.

Upper castle – Hauenstein

The gothic guard castle from the middle of the 13th century and renovated in the 19th century in the neo-gothic style into a castle is gradually being repaired, and cultural programs take place here. It is located 22 km from Boží Dar towards Chomutov. See more at hornihrad.cz.

Ostrov castle park

The historical monument, Ostrov castle park, is a wonderful place where you can recharge your batteries and enjoy the local natural beauty. The castle park is part of the Ostrov castle premises, the Princes’ Palace and the Summer Residence. It stretches on both sides of the Jáchymov brook. Ostrov Swimming pool

The Ostrov swimming pool is located on the slope above Ostrov, near the hospital. There is a large swimming pool with 25 m of swimming lanes, a relaxation zone, water fun with a water slide, a wide slide, climbing net, floating water lilies, a small pool and a paddling pool. There are changing rooms, toilets, safe storage compartments, refreshments, a beach volleyball playing area and free parking. See more at icostrov.cz.

Oberwiesenthal and its surroundings – Germany

Fichtelberg lookout tower

A cable car or chair lift will take you to the top of Fichtelberg, the entrance to the lookout tower is 1 Euro, and parking is 1 Euro per hour. With 1215 m, Fichtelberg is the second-highest mountain in the Ore Mountains. As early as 1845, there was an 8 m lookout tower here. The first lookout tower from 1889 was destroyed by fire in 1963. In 1967, a new lookout tower was opened, which, after the reconstruction in 1999, is 32 m high and has 148 steps leading to the top of the tower. Two cableways lead to the top; there are also ski slopes and a toboggan run. See more at hotel-fichtelberghaus.de.

Oberwiesenthal cable car

Oberwiesenthal Spa is the highest-situated town in Germany. There is a four-seater chair lift and cable car where you can pay only in cash in Euros or by card. It is the oldest suspended cableway in Germany from 1924. You have a fantastic view of the beautiful landscape of the Ore Mountains. See more at fichtelberg-ski.de.

Oberwiesenthal bobsleigh track

Oberwiesenthal bobsleigh track is to be found on the southern slopes of the second highest mountain of the Ore Mountains Fichtelberg, right next to the cable car. There is a U-ramp for snowboarders and several ski jumps next to the toboggan run. It is located 4 km from Boží Dar. Weather permitting, it operates from spring to fall. Oberwiesenthal Sea Aquarium

The sea aquarium lies 6 km from Boží Dar. You will see a 17 m coral reef with colourful fish, seahorses and plants, as well as exhibitions of spiders, beetles, crabs and snails. Payment is only possible in cash in Euros. See more at meeresaquarium-oberwiesenthal.de.

Narrow gauge railway Fichtelbergbahn

The narrow-gauge steam train – OberwiesenthalCranzahl with a length of 18 km and 9 stops is a technical monument. Trains have run here since 1897. In addition, there is a marked tourist route along the entire track. It is possible to pay in cash in Euros or by card from 10 Euros; you can also take bicycles with you. Schwarzenberg castle

The medieval castle with its collections is located in Bavarian Central Franconia near the town of Scheinfeld, 25 km from Boží Dar in the direction of Annaberg. The first provable mention of the fortified settlement dates to 1150. The dominant feature is the Black Tower, built between 1670 and 1674, in honour of the preferment of the Schwarzenberg house to the status of imperial princes. See more at schwarzenberg.de.

ELLDUS SPA in Oberwiesenthal

Only about a 10-minute ride by car from Boží Dar, the ELLDUS SPA in Oberwiesenthal covers an area of almost 2,000 m2, where you can find opportunities to relax and rest for children and adults. It included a varied sauna world, a relaxing pool and children’s SPA. The Water World Freizeitbad Greifensteine near Geyer

You can also visit the famous Water World in Geyer, which is 32 km from Boží Dar, and enjoy indoor and outdoor pools, a children’s paddling pool, slides, an 85 m long water slide and an 80 m long wild river, a wave pool, 34 °C hot tub, wellness, various saunas including Finnish, steam and bio saunas, solarium, bar and restaurants. You will also like the water world in Marienberg, which is located 50 km from Boží Dar. It covers 3,800 m2 with swimming pools and water attractions, restaurants, wellness and saunas.
